Join the worlds’ largest humanitarian network.  The Canadian Red Cross Society, a not for profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is currently seeking a Home Help Worker. This is a contract role with hours based upon client need in the community.  This is an ideal position for someone who would like to make a difference in their community, while helping others, and having a flexible schedule. 

Reporting to the Community Support Services Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide in home services on a regular, occasional or one time basis to seniors in the City of Greater Sudbury.  In accordance with the policies and practices of the Community Health Services, the Canadian Red Cross provides assistance in maintaining a healthy, safe, and clean home environment to those vulnerable seniors in their place of residence. 

Responsibilities:

 Perform light housekeeping duties such as bedding changes, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping floors, dishes, and dusting
 Clean the bathroom
 Complete laundry tasks
 Occasional tasks such as clean refrigerator, stove tops, microwave, cupboards, closets and windows
 Annual wall washing
 Implement and practice infection control measures
 Safely operate and maintain equipment, reporting any unsafe or hazardous equipment or situation
 Some report writing required
 Maintain confidentiality
 Adhere to the Canadian Red Cross’ Code of Conduct and uphold their Values


Minimum Qualifications:

 Secondary school education preferred
 Household management experience
 Experience working with seniors, ill or disabled persons
 Time management skills
 Good assessment skills
 Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team as well as work independently
 Must be able to communicate well verbally and written
 Knowledge of WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Management Information System)
 First Aid Certification (training provided)
 Successful Canadian Criminal Record Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen

Working Conditions:

 The work is performed in the residences of the clients.
 Local travel is required to clients residence within the City of Greater Sudbury.
 Lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques
 Bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, or crouch using proper body mechanics
